Pre-Medical Science Studies Certificate (PMSS)

Effective Spring 2017

Pre-Medical Science Studies (PMSS) Certificate program is designed to help prepare students for entry into post baccalaureate schools in the medical professions, specifically, medical school, dental school, veterinary school, podiatric school, chiropractic school, and optometry school. PMSS Certificate includes the most common course pre-requisites for medical professional programs, with additional courses to help students prepare for admissions exams. (MCA T, OAT, DAT, etc.)

Required courses. (Minimum 49 credits)

The student is responsible for checking with professional schools of interest for further school-specific requirements.

Note: professional schools may not accept AP credit or community college courses.

Either BIOLOGY.114 Concepts in Biology 1 (4 cr) and BIOLOGY.173 Anatomy and Physiology 1 (4 cr), or BIOLOGY.114 Concepts in Biology 1 (4 cr) and BIOLOGY.115 Concepts in Biology 2 (4 cr), or one BIOLOGY course for majors numbered 200 or higher (at least 3 cr)

BIOLOGY.271 Cell Biology (4 cr)

One restricted BIOLOGY elective: BIOLOGY.332 Genetics (3 cr) or BIOLOGY.343 Immunology (3 cr)

or BIOLOGY.333 Molecular Biology (3 cr) or BIOLOGY.364 Vertebrate Histology (3 cr)

or BIOLOGY.474 Human Physiology (3 cr)

CHEM.115 Chemistry for the Sciences 1 (4 cr)

CHEM.116 Chemistry for the Sciences 2 (4 cr)

CHEM.231 Organic Chemistry 1 (4 cr)

Other requirements:

At least 12 credits of the required courses must be earned at Bloomsburg University.

A minimum cumulative QPA of 3.2 / 4.0 overall and a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.2 / 4.0 in required courses.

A minimum letter grade of C in all required courses.
