As per PRP3604: All students earning a first baccalaureate degree will take at least 30 of their last 45 credits at Bloomsburg University, no more credits are required than the 30 credits. All first baccalaureate students will take at least 50% of credits required for the Major from a PASSHE university. Bloomsburg University may require up to a maximum of 50% of the Major credits. Program exceptions to the policy are to be approved by the Office of the Chancellor.
Admission to the Social Work Major includes a C or better earned in SOCWORK.133, a completed application and interview by the program director and/or faculty. The program application can be found in the student handbook. Intro to SW counts as GEPs and also towards the major requirements (3 credits/points are earned for this).
In order to progress within the program, students must earn a minimum grade of C in SOCWORK.221, SOCWORK.250, SOCWORK.334, SOCWORK.450, SOCWORK.452, SOCWORK.453, and SOCWORK.498. Student status in the program will be reviewed prior to enrollment in SOCWORK 497 and 498, Social Work Field Education and seminar.
Social Work Elective courses are not offered every semester and are not required. However, for those enrolling in CWEB - Child Welfare Education for Baccalaureates SOCWORK 236 Child Welfare is a required course and a prerequisite for this program. Students applying to CWEB will need a minimum GPA of 3.0 to complete 400 hours and a minimum GPA of 2.5 to complete 975 hours and will need to apply no later than their junior year.
Dismissal from the major. Because the BSW is a professional degree, the faculty reserve the right to counsel or dismiss any student who does not satisfy the professional and personal standards on performance, conduct/behavior, emotional self-control and self-understanding, and communication skills.
