Guidance Counseling and Student Affairs (M.Ed.) (Fall 2008)

Admissions Note: Fall, 2007 admission will be restricted to the Student Affairs track. The two Guidance Counseling tracks must obtain PDE approval for certification before students may be admitted to them.
Admission - Applicants must satisfy the general admission requirements for the School of Graduate Studies. In addition, applicants to this degree program must:
- Complete a Graduate School application.
- Submit an official transcript (minimum 3.0 undergraduate QPA).
- Submit GRE scores (minimum 950 combined math and verbal required).
- Submit a statement of goals and objectives.
- Submit a current resume.
- Submit three letters of recommendation addressing the student's academic suitability and professional demeanor.
- Schedule an interview with the program coordinator, Dr. Francesca Kendris, to clarify program requirements, discuss goals, evaluate academic records, and outline a long-range program.
- A $30 application fee must accompany the application
Retention. This program is full time, academic year and summer. Graduate students must take a minimum of 12 credits per semester hours and maintain a QPA of 3.0 or higher. Students not maintaining full time status may be dismissed from the program.
Only courses with a minimum grade of C are considered applicable to this program.
Transfer Credits. Up to nine semester hours from accredited institutions may, upon approval, be accepted toward completing the degree requirements of this program. However, no courses will be transferred in which a grade less than a B was earned. Pass/fail grades are not acceptable.
Graduation. Graduate students complete 54 semester hours of approved course work, and apply for graduation. All deficiencies, monetary and academic, must be satisfied before the degree can be granted.
Program Completion and Graduation
A candidate for a Master's degree must complete the student portion of the Application for Graduation, sign the form and submit it to your program coordinator for verification of degree requirements. After approval, the application is submitted to the Registrar by the following deadlines for each graduation:
- May graduation - March 15
- August graduation - April 1
- December graduation - October 15
The form must be received in the Registrar's Office on or before those dates. After the deadlines, names will not appear in the Commencement program and the diploma may be delayed. The form is available in the Office of Graduate Studies, Registrar's Office, or the office of your program coordinator or on the Graduate Studies web page.

You may register for classes by e-mailing your program coordinator at rgates@bloomu.edu or you may complete the Graduate Scheduling Form found on the Graduate Studies web page and submitting it to your program coordinator.

Admission to Certification
(Elementary and Secondary Education Counseling Tracks only)
Before registering for more than 12 credits in the program students are required to:
Obtain current ACT 34 (Request for Criminal Record Check), F.B.I Criminal Check, and ACT 151 (Child Abuse History Check) clearances. Clearances are valid for one year from date issued on the form.
Submit the results from a current Tuberculosis Screening administered within the last two years.
Possess professional liability insurance. The policy shall be a minimum of $1,000,000 per claim and $3,000,000 aggregate. This is a state requirement which can be satisfied through membership in PSEA.
