Biology (BS) - Molecular Biology Option

Administered by Biological and Allied Health Sciences

Effective Fall, 2017

As per PRP3604: All students earning a first baccalaureate degree will take at least 30 of their last 45 credits at Bloomsburg University, no more credits are required than the 30 credits. All first baccalaureate students will take at least 50% of credits required for the Major from a PASSHE university. Bloomsburg University may require up to a maximum of 50% of the Major credits. Program exceptions to the policy are to be approved by the Office of the Chancellor.

Requirements for the Molecular Biology option are similar to those for students in the general biology curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science. Molecular Biology employs living systems in the development or manufacture of a product or in the technological solution to a problem. It has revolutionized agriculture, medical and veterinary diagnostics, pharmacology and even the legal system. Molecular Biology applies the cutting edge techniques of the biological and chemical sciences (recombinant DNA, genetic engineering, cell and tissue culture and cloning) to improve the quality of our lives.

A maximum of 3 cr hr of BIOLOGY.490 may be applied as biology elective credit toward the degree. A maximum of 6 cr hr from among BIOLOGY.391, BIOLOGY.484, BIOLOGY.490, and BIOLOGY.494 may be applied as biology elective credit toward the degree.
