Minor in Special Education

Administered by Department of Exceptionalities

Effective Spring 2016

This Minor provides students with core content related to the education of individuals with disabilities. This Minor does not provide students with certification in Special Education, but can serve as a mechanism for adding this certification with the completion of additional requirements.

Students must earn a grade of C or better in each class of this minor and must receive advisement from the Department of Exceptionality Programs in regard to course selections.

Required Courses (18 Credits):

SPECED.101 Introduction to Individuals with Exceptionalities

SPECED.202 Technology for Individuals with Disabilities

SPECED.275 Linking Assessment and Instruction for Students with Disabilities

SPECED.358 Methods of Instruction for Individuals with Disabilities

*SPECED.417 Behavior Intervention and Support

Choose one (1) of the following courses:

SPECED.430 Eff Instruction Practices for Students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities

SPECED.433 Literacy Instruction for Students with Disabilities

SPECED.450 Eff Instructional Practices for Students with Mild Disabilities (PRE K-8)

SPECED.451 Eff Instructional Practices for Students with Mild Disabilities (7-12)

*These courses require field experiences. Copies of up-to-date clearances, TB results, and liability insurance must be shown to the instructor the first day of class.

NOTES: Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program or department approval (for non-Teacher Education majors) is required for enrollment in SPECED 358 and SPECED 400 level courses.

SPECED 358 is a prerequisite for enrollment in SPECED 400 level courses.
